Henley-on-Thames

Yesterday, when I said I would write about our weekend later that day, I had no idea what was about to happen to my plans.  I had been in Stratford for approximately 13 hours when my agent called me about a last minute audition.  I immediately hopped onto the train, went to the audition, then back on the train.  Phew! Plans ruined.  (In case you are now thinking to yourself that I must be a diva, let it be known that I am laying on the sitting room floor eating guacamole whilst writing this.)

As you guys know, we moved from London to Stratford-upon-Avon this weekend. But we wanted to have one last weekend getaway before the shows open and we wouldn’t have a chance to.  So we went to Henley-on-Thames where the Royal Regatta is held every year. (Also known as the race of the cute twins in “The Social Network”.) And let me tell you, I could happily live the life that the people in Henley live.  It’s gorgeous, a bit twee, and I loved every bit of it.

We stayed in this ancient hotel called the Red Lion.  It’s been around since the 1500s and everyone has stayed there.  From Charles I to Grace Kelly.  I really wanted to stay in Grace Kelly’s room, but alas, we did not.   It was great and I loved it.  Also the staff was super helpful, they even let us borrow champagne flutes from the bar.

Saturday night we had dinner at the Green Olive which was an amazing Greek restaurant.  I swore that before the night was over I would eat my body weight in halloumi.  (I did.)  It was an incredible feast!

Wowzers, I was wearing a lot of patterns.  Luckily, I’d just taught Sam the term “Houndstooth” which he now loves and finds hilarious in equal measures.

(Wintery English sunset.)

(What a cutie!)

(This is my favourite hat.  I wittily named him “Hat”. Genius doesn’t come easily, you know.)

(We received this scrumptious bottle as a gift from friends.  We saved it for a pre-dinner treat.)

(He doesn’t smile in photos. I think he thinks he’s too cool for it.)
