A Little Bit About Me

First things first.  Starbucks UK tweeted me this picture yesterday:

starbucks
Needless to say, it made my day!
I had tweeted them a few weeks ago asking if the Pumpkin Spice was going to return to the UK and I got this brilliant, personalised message in response. Now that’s what I call customer service and I’m really feeling the PSL love now.

There are loads of new faces around here lately and I planned on writing a post giving a quick run down on the 411 of me.

If that isn’t enough of a daily dose of Amanda for you, feel free to follow me on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest or Twitter

11 Random Facts about Me:

1. I sing all the time. ALL THE TIME. Sam frequently has to ask me to lower my voice so that the neighbours don’t complain. But not real songs. I like to make up my own. My current song is about the weird furry pig the Mangalitza, that I blogged about earlier.

2.  I once gave Arnold Schwarzenegger a tour around the museum that I was working in at the time.

3. I really enjoy cleaning the hair our of my brush. (Weird, really weird. I know)

4. When I met Andy Samberg (whom I love) and he asked me to do him a favour and hold his glasses, I did this quickly before he came back:

Me doing the creepiest fan-girl thing ever. Taking photos in Samberg’s own glasses.
I probably shouldn’t have put this picture on the internet.
5. If I don’t have a diet coke at least once during the day I get cranky. Toddlers & Tiaras cranky.

6. I miss family, friends, stores and food from America at various times but I don’t every get homesick the way other expats seem to. Does this make me a bad expat?

7.  I have all the “classic” bad habits. I bite my nails, I crack my knuckles, I play with my hair.

8. I have my friends, and then I have my best friend. Who’s gone so far past the “friend” level that I think of her like a sister. This hasn’t changed even though we haven’t lived in reasonable visiting distance of each other since 2007. Seeing her again was one of the highlights of my summer in America! I’m a grown woman with a “best friend” and I’m not ashamed at all.

9. If I could hold and play with a baby panda bear I’d die happily the next day without any regrets. I have a stuffed panda that travels the world with me. He is my prized possession. His name is Socks.

Last Valentines Day Sam and Socks bonded over some bubbly.

10. I won’t eat seafood because of a scarring childhood incident where I though 100s of tropical fish were “thirsty” so I feed them a glass of milk. Which led to the immediate death of 100s of fish.

11. I may take the cake on being clumsy.  I am so clumsy that whenever we are on tall things (eg the Eiffel Tower and the Sagrada Familia ) Sam has heart palpitations because he is so afraid that I’ll trip and die.  I have broken both legs, my collar bone and an ankle at various times in my life, not through tragic accidents but sheer clumsiness. But I also danced for my college’s company. So go figure.

Yaumara’s Questions:

1. If you had an unlimited amount of money to spend in any one store of your choice, where would you choose?
Kate Spade. I’ve never come across a Kate Spade piece that I haven’t liked. Plus she does everything: clothing, shoes, jewellery, accessories, home things. It’s perfect. Go to your nearest Kate Spade window display and look inside. That is my dream everything.
2. What’s your favorite place to eat out?
It sounds tacky…but Chipotle. Man, I love those burritos!

3. When not blogging, what do you do for fun?
A lot of baking and watching TV. But also reading and going for walks. I’d really like to start dancing again when we get back to London.

4. Favorite PRINT Magazine?

To be completely honest, I never buy magazines unless it’s before a flight. On the plane I like to read fashion magazines. Elle, Vogue, etc.

5. Your life is going to become a script for a movie. Who would you want to play you?

Zoe Deschanel would be the most likely candidate to play me realistically, but I would love if Kristen Wiig did. I just want to be somehow associated with Wiig. I have a huge girl crush on her.

6. Coffee or Tea?
Coffee. I guess I’m not that English yet.
7. Book or Movie?

Book. The vast majority of things I own are books. My family bought me a Kindle a few years ago to help cut down on the amount of boxes that I lug around and it is dangerous! When you go into a bookstore and spend money on a book you can set limits. But when you download them just buy pushing a button it doesn’t seem like you’ve spent money at all……. until you look at your bank account later!

8. Camping or luxury hotel?
I really enjoy camping but if it was for a special occasion or it’s a gift I’d choose a luxury hotel as that is not normal financially feasible for me when I travel so it’d be a treat.
9. What is the worst gift you’ve ever received?

I really love getting and giving presents of any shape and form. I suppose if I had to classify one as “bad” my 6th grade “boyfriend” gave me a thing of bobby pins for my 12th birthday. I really appreciated it at the time but looking back on it, it makes me laugh!

10. If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, What would it be?
Freshly baked bread. I get that from my grandma. She was obsessed with bread as well. Sam says he’s never met anyone that likes bread as much as I do.

11. What smell do you like the best?

It sounds silly, but I am really fragrance sensitive. Any strong perfumes, incense and candles will give me terrible headaches that last for hours. But I guess I like anything that smells clean but slightly floral. I also really love the smell of cookies in the oven, but who doesn’t?
